UDP- (User Datagram Protocol) UDP is a protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite that is used in place of TCP when a reliable delivery is not required. For example, UDP is used for real-time audio and video traffic where lost packets are simply ignored, because there is no time to retransmit. If UDP is used and a reliable delivery is required, packet sequence checking and error notification must be written into the applications. For more information go to our home page.

Upgrades- An upgrade is to replace existing software with a newer version. Uptime Devices has a variety a software products and devices that are upgradeable. For more information go to our Administrative Tools page.

UPS Monitoring- (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Backup power used when the electrical power fails or drops to an unacceptable voltage level. Small UPS systems provide battery power for a few minutes; enough to power down the computer in an orderly manner. Sophisticated systems are tied to electrical generators that can provide power for days. A UPS system can be connected to a file server so that, in the event of a problem, all network users can be alerted to save files and shut down immediately. An "online UPS" provides a constant source of electrical power from the battery, while the batteries are being recharged from AC power. A "standby UPS," also called an "offline UPS," normally draws current from the AC outlet and switches to battery within a few milliseconds after detecting a power failure. Uptime Monitor- Uptime Monitor is an easy to use network monitoring and event-based scripting utility. Among the many checks it can do: it can monitor any Winsock service, ping a host, check if an NT service/process is running, check the available disk space on a server, retrieve an URL, check your database engine, and more. When it detects a down condition it can alert you in a variety of ways, including sending you an email saying what's down or paging you with a numeric or alphanumeric warning. When used in conjunction with a SensorArray, you can automate event based actions using it's easy scripting feature. Uptime Monitor also supports host dependency and can be easily queried using a telnet client and/or a web browser. For more information go to our Administrative Tools page.

User Defined Options- User Defined Options are defined as: any format, layout, structure or language that is developed by the user. Uptime gives its users these capabilities for their devices. For more information go to our home page. For your Uptime Devices user options please go to our online FAQ Manual.
