ICMP- The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) This protocol is actually part of an IP implementation. It is used to report errors in IP data-gram routing. It is also a form of flow control, although ICMP messages are neither guaranteed to be received or transmitted. It is merely a way to provide feedback to the sender of IP data-grams. I-Mail- I-Mail Server for Windows NT is a high performance SMTP/POP3 e-mail server geared for today's Internet and corporate intranet messaging requirements. Now with anti-spamming controls, IMAP4, and LDAP support, it offers businesses an attractive alternative to more complex and higher-priced proprietary products or complicated UNIX-based systems. For more information go to our Administrative Tools page.
Internal Sensors- A sensor that is included within the device, the sensor does not need to be plugged into the device. For more information on Uptime Devices' external sensors go to our sensors page. For information on troubleshooting sensor problems or to make sure they are setup correctly please see our online FAQ Manual.
Internal Web Server- Allows more convenience to the device, enabling it to have a web page that is accessible anywhere in the world. (Must have internet access.)
Internet- The vast collection of inter-connected networks that are connected using the TCP/IP protocols and that evolved from the ARPANET of the late 60's and early 70's. The Internet connects tens of thousands of independent networks into a vast global internet and is probably the largest Wide Area Network in the world. For more information go to our home page.
Internet Explorer- Internet Explorer 6 is a set of core technologies in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional, and is available to users of Microsoft Windows® 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Microsoft Windows NT® Workstation 4.0, and Windows 2000 Professional operating systems. Internet Explorer 6 includes many new and enhanced features that can simplify the daily tasks that you perform, while helping you to maintain the privacy of your personal information on the Web. Uptime Devices uses Internet Explorer as their browser. For more information go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/evaluation/overview/default.asp.
IP- Every machine that is on the Internet has a unique IP number - if a machine does not have an IP number, it is not really on the Internet. Many machines (especially servers) also have one or more Domain Names that are easier for people to remember. (IP) The network layer for the TCP/IP protocol suite widely used on Ethernet networks, defined in STD 5, RFC 791. IP is a connectionless, best-effort packet switching protocol. It provides packet routing, fragmentation and re-assembly through the data link layer. For more information go to our home page. For more information on how to setup your IP address or troubleshoot your problems please see our online FAQ Manual.
IP Address- A little bit about your IP address (Internet Protocol address). When you connect to the internet, either via your internet service provider (AOL, Prodigy, etc.), or your office LAN connection, you are assigned an IP address. This address identifies your computer from the other computers on the internet. Your IP address can be either static, meaning it never changes, or dynamic, meaning each time you dial-in or login you are assigned a new address for that session. Check with your internet service provider or network administrator to find out if your computer uses static or dynamic IP addressing. For more information go to our home page. For more information on how to setup your IP address or troubleshoot your problems please see our online FAQ Manual.
IP Filtering- IPFilter is a software package that can be used to provide network address translation (NAT) or firewall services. To use, it can either be used as a loadable kernel module or incorporated into your UNIX kernel; use as a loadable kernel module where possible is highly recommended. Scripts are provided to install and patch system files, as required. For more information go to our home page. For more information on how to setup your IP address or troubleshoot your problems please see our online FAQ Manual.
