Data Logging- May refer only to data stored in a database in contrast with text in a word processing document record of computer activity used for statistical purposes as well as backup and recovery. Log files are created for such purposes as storing incoming text dialog, error and status messages and transaction detail. Uptime Devices provides to its customers Data Logging software compatible with its devices. For more information go to our Administrative Tools page.

DHCP- (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns IP addresses to client stations logging onto a TCP/IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent IP addresses. DHCP software typically runs in servers and is also found in network devices such as ISDN routers and modem routers that allow multiple users access to the Internet. Newer DHCP servers dynamically update the DNS servers after making assignments. For more information go to our Administrative Tools page.

Digital Input- Traditionally, digital means the use of numbers and the term comes from digit, or finger. Today, digital is synonymous with computer. To create digital input is the enter data into the computer digitally. For more information go to our home page.

Digital Output- Traditionally, digital means the use of numbers and the term comes from digit, or finger. Today, digital is synonymous with computer. To create digital output is to transfer or transmit from a computer to a peripheral device or communications line. For more information go to our home page.

DNS- (Domain Name System) Name resolution software that lets users locate computers on a UNIX network or the Internet (TCP/IP network) by domain name. The DNS server maintains a database of domain names (host names) and their corresponding IP addresses. In this hypothetical example, if www.mycompany.com were presented to a DNS server, the IP address 204.0.8.51 would be returned. DNS has replaced the manual task of updating HOSTS files in an inhouse UNIX network, and of course, it would be impossible to do this manually on the global Internet, given its size. For more information go to our home page.

Door Contact- A metal strip in a switch or socket that touches a corresponding strip in order to make a connection for current to pass. Contacts may be made of precious metals to avoid corrosion. For more information go to our sensors page.

Downloads- Uptime devices offers tons of software downloads to help you manage your network. For more information go to our Administrative Tools page.

Dry Contact- The wire pairs have no conditioning or loading coils and are not processed in any way. Also called "dry wire" or "dry copper," and originally intended for burglar alarms, the circuits are also leased for high-speed data transmission with transceivers of the same type placed at both ends. Uptime Devices dry contact cables are for use with 2 wire contact cables. For more information go to our sensors page.
